Fidelity to God's Amazing Love (John 15:9-11)

"As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. Abiding in Christ means obeying God’s commandment of love.

The mark of Christ’s true disciple of Christ is obedience to His commands – fidelity to His love. Being faithful to His amazing love is the best way to keep connected in Him. Therefore, it is worth examining some of His amazing commandments of love. We can look at a couple of them like “Love your enemies”, “Turn the other cheek”, “Take up your cross every day” etc. Of course, these are completely opposite to what’s going on and happening in our worldly culture. The world we live in is characterized by revenge and instant gratification. Many do not want inconveniences in life for we all want easy way of living. But do they make us truly joyful. The answer is “no.” Even Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda, with all their riches that made their lives easy and convenient, are not truly and deeply joyful.

The invitation of Christ in today’s Gospel offers us the way to be truly and deeply joyful because His commandments of love provides us with the ingredient of joy-filled living. Christ’s commandments connect us in Him, and they are not intended to control and dominate anyone but opportunities for true happiness. Joy is the mark of true Christianity. Jesus said: “my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete” (John 15:11).
